Those Who Raise Great People—and Those Who Do Not
“Greatness in character does not translate to greatness in parenting.” – Wendy Ologe.

There are two kinds of parents in the world:
Those who raise great people—and those who don’t.
And while it’s easy to assume that being a “good person” automatically qualifies someone to raise emotionally intelligent, grounded, and purpose-driven children, the truth is this:
Goodness alone is not enough.

We often admire people of strong character—kind, ethical, disciplined individuals—and assume they’ll raise exceptional children. But over and over again, we see great individuals who miss it completely in parenting. Why?
Because parenting is not inherited. It is learned.
And greatness in your personal life does not guarantee greatness in your parenting journey.
⸻
Children Don’t Inherit Values—They Experience Them
You can’t discipline your way into raising an emotionally intelligent child.
You can’t pray your way into raising a secure child.
You can’t assume that your kindness will automatically translate into connection.
Children don’t become who you are in public—they become who you are at home.
You may have integrity in your bones, compassion as your language, and success in your career, yet still raise children who are emotionally wounded, misunderstood, or deeply insecure.
Why? Because you don’t parent with character alone—you parent with skill.

Great Character Does Not Equal Great Parenting
Let’s break it down.
• You might be incredibly patient with others, yet lose your temper with your children.
• You might champion emotional safety at work, yet shame your children at home.
• You might value honesty, yet punish your child for telling the truth.
You might be responsible, yet emotionally unavailable.
You might be prayerful, yet reactive.
You might love deeply, yet express that love in a way your child doesn’t understand.
You can be a good person… and still raise hurting children.
Parenting Is Not a Character-Based Task. It’s a Skill-Based Journey.
This is why you’ll find people who don’t even align with your values or beliefs—yet their children thrive.
Parenting isn’t about being “nice.” It’s about being equipped.
• Can you regulate your emotions when your child triggers you?
• Do you understand your child’s temperament and emotional language?
• Do you know how to be firm without being harsh?
• Can you correct without shame?
• Can you guide without control?
Every child is not a new chapter. They are an entirely different book.
And you cannot parent them all the same way.
That’s why intentionality is key.

Prayer Alone Is Not a Parenting Strategy
This may sound uncomfortable, but it must be said:
God will not parent your children for you.
If prayer alone raised great children, every devout parent would have thriving, emotionally stable children. But we’ve seen pastors, religious leaders, and deeply spiritual parents raise children who are broken, angry, and lost.
God entrusted Jesus to earthly parents.
Why? Because parenting is man’s responsibility.
Prayer is powerful. But without building the right skills, prayer becomes a wish, not a plan.
What Does Intentional Parenting Actually Mean?
Intentional parenting means:
1. Choosing to learn what you were never taught.
2. Understanding who your child is—not just reacting to their behavior.
3. Connecting before correcting.
4. Creating safety, not fear.
You cannot pray your way into being a world-class parent any more than you can pray your way into being a world-class footballer. God is a God of systems and process—and parenting is one of them.

The Truth About Your Parenting Legacy
A child is not born empty.
They are born complete—with everything they need inside them.
Your role is not to fill them, but to guide what’s already within.
And if you’re not healing, you’re repeating.
You’re likely parenting from the wounds of your own childhood—using what you know, because that’s all you know.
But what if “what you know” is broken?
That’s why we say: heal, so you don’t bleed on people who didn’t cut you.
